I generally back in when I park, I figure it’s safer that way. There is a lot less traffic coming from the parking space than there is coming down the aisle. Got to back up eventually, might as well be safe while doing so.
Although my mother taught me to drive, my dad decided to teach me to back up (we were loading a truck with furniture from a porch). He stood in front of me whirling his arm and talking (which I couldn’t hear over the noise of the truck). He was getting more frantic all the time, but I kept turning the wheel in the direction that his arm was moving. Crunch! Turns out he was moving his arm to show me what direction the wheels were supposed to go, not the steering wheel! To this day I hate having to back up — but I haven’t crunched anything since.

Even scarier since her transmission developed that Freudian slip…
