    Would have been confiscated by the Inquisition, and ended up buried in the Vatican archives with dead battery. Then discovered by conspiracy theorists in 2014 and made into movie with gun fights, car chases, hostile Swiss guards, etc.

    There’s a sci-fi story with this idea. Guy invents time machine, but isn’t sure which direction it sends things, or how far. Lab assistant takes unauthorized trip. The story ends with the inventor wondering if he’s right about what happened to the assistant, Leonard Vincent.
