I have never passed up a coin, not even pennies. I save my change in a jar for The Starvation Army bell ringer at Christmas and for the PAWS animal shelter. Have no clue how much I’ve collected over the years for them.

Another reason to pick up pennies these days, they contain enough zinc to make a cat or dog really sick.

I also pick up any and all coins that I find. Pennies, dimes, nickels, and quarters. I found 33pennies once. The person that threw that away only saw pennies, I saw 33cents.

I think some of those gumball machines will give you three little gumballs for a nickel.

There once was a girl named “Penny” who wished she could be the most beautiful girl in the world. Upon finding a lamp she started to policy it whereupon a Genie appeared and said the she could have any wish she wanted but only one. She thought about it for a moment and said “I want to be the most beautiful girl in the world”. With a flash she was but the Genie cautioned her that an after effect of the spell might be that she could grow facial hair but she must leave it along. Penny agreed and poof all was done. After a while she noticed that she was beginning to get a little facial hair she did not have before. Thinking nothing of it she continued for a week only to find that the facial hair was getting worse. So ignoring the warning from the Genie she shave her face.Poof! She was turned into a brass Urn.The moral? A penny shaved is a penny urned!

There was a little Prohibition-era tune that lingered on long enough thereafter for me to hear it on the playground while in grade school. It was slightly NSFW, but it expressed the value of a nickel back then. “De Nobili, De Nobili, five cents a glass, if you don’t like it, shove it [CENSORED].” (De Nobili was a mob-made beer.)Do you drink beer, Broomie?

Now you can buy five penny horsey rides at the grocery store, Broomie. Or you can save it.

It is too bad the US Mint failed to make a Dollar coin that people liked.

We should follow the lead of Canada- drop the penny. Illinois fantasizes that everyone thinks of them when we see that president on the coin. Much ado about nothing.

Nickel candy now costs $1.79. That’s what happens when a government tries to finance itself by printing money.
