IIRC, commercials can be as loud as the loudest noise on the TV show.

In the early days of television, it was determined that, not only should commercials be loud, but also silly, obnoxious, boorish, insulting, etc. It didn’t matter if the viewer hated the commercial, it only mattered that he remembered the commercial.

I always thought that the commercials were louder so you could hear them when you went the bathroom or kitchen during the break in the program.

Loud commercials were band by the FCC, The stations are trying to push the button to see how far they could go without being fined and have to forced to lower the volume. Right now blab-off is the only way to go.

    Not your imagination, Broomie dearest!

While “they” piously (and truthfully) assert they aren’t increasing the gain on the commercials, they “neglect” to mention that the original recordings were at a much louder level….
