I didn’t throw my hearing aids away like Broomie but I don’t wear them very often. When I do I usually place them on the anti-noise setting because the little noises drive me crazy. If there was a legal definition of deaf I would qualify but I can hear enough in the low ranges to get by without too many problems. However if there are several people talking at the same time I have to leave as I cannot take that.
When Hubby got his hearing aids, the kids in the after-school program didn’t realize he could suddenly hear them. He said he felt as if he was invisible – in a good way – because he could overhear everything they were saying.
Nerwin, Irwin, and Gaylord chattering away could drive anyone crazy, with or without the help of hearing aids. Still, Broomie’s action was a little too impulsive. Maybe some day she would want those expensive things!
I remember a Saturday Night Live fake commercial where an old man gets a pair of hearing aids delivered to his home and his whole family is yelling at him, asking how well the hearing aids are working, but it turns out his hearing was just fine, the “hearing aids,” actually eliminated the sounds around him so he could enjoy the peace and quiet.

They sure are. A local audiologist priced them for me at $4500. If I could afford that, this strip would have saved me money.

Sometimes have to remove the battery(ies) due to the noise levels. Silence is golden.

Mine have a wide-range volume control, and if that doesn’t work, a small tug at the batteries works wonders!
