Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for September 11, 1988
Transcript:
Calvin: School's out! Free at last! Calvin: And just six precious hours before bed to forget everything I learned today. Calvin: I hate coming home from school. I never know if Hobbes is waiting to pounce on me. Calvin: Maybe I can stand off to the side here, and push the door open with a stick. Calvin: I'm home! Calvin: What do you do, wait until you see the whites of my eyes?!? Hobbes: Boy, you should've seen them! They were as big as dinner plates! Hoo hoo hoo!

This is the wrong comic. This is the comic for October 23 (change the URL to that date, you’ll see it’s the same one). The correct comic can be found in The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes, page 219.

The whites of their eyes, i think, is a refrence to what an American general said on Bunker Hill in the American Revolution. But it was “Don’t shoot till you see the whites of their eyes.” (which was apparently 50 yards away.)

Calvin actually “learns” anything on a given day at school?
