    No, they are headed for Mars! If they’re going the right way, that is. A map is really part of navigation, not supplies, and Calvin should have been responsible!

    Comic strip characters are virtually indestructible and rarely lose consciousness, so that’s unlikely.

    I have faint memories of a picture-book titled You Will Go to the Moon. (That was well before Apollo 7.) On the last page was a view of the sky from the Moon, with a red dot and text about someday maybe going to Mars.

    I took some kind of assessment test which included the question “What is Mars?” I confidently answered, “A red dot.” Though the examiner sympathized, that was not one of the accepted answers.

    (Hm, I must have been younger than Calvin. Dad took me to the Chicago planetarium to see a show about Mars, and afterward we had a Mars Bar. I was five when we moved away from Chicago.)
