    An all-time classic! Shortly after I first read this ’toon, a soon-to-be ex girlfriend offered ME a penny for MY thoughts. What then followed closely paralleled this cartoon. I, at least, thought it was a very good day.

    Even with the restrictive Sunday strip format, Watterson, by this point, was clearly getting more creative with the panel layouts.

    I can still remember seeing this strip when it was originally published; I was only in 1st grade. I remember trying to describe it to one of my friends but it went completely over their head. I was disappointed because I wanted to share it with them.
