we still follow the same logic. to save ourselves the hassle of cooking a meal, we gladly drive 5 miles to wait 15 minutes in a drive through queue only to drive the 5 miles home again to eat a cold tastless meal…
Hehe it was only very recently that I started putting more clothes on when I’m cold, rather than loudly complaining about it - and I’m seventeen! Sorry Calvin’s parents, but it looks like this lasts a while lol.
Nick1925, you do remember that Hobbes has a permanent fur-coat?
Dutchboy & pouncingtiger–on the nail!
Elwoodman, a relative of one of my relatives (MSP-based brother-in-law of my Chicago-based cousin) is forced to follow a similar logic. His wife will not let the kitchen be used for cooking, because “it will get dirty”; so they have to have take-out every night.
i’m giving a talk on sustainable energy today at my rotary club. this comic is the perfect way to open the presentation. i’ll close the talk with a quote from the other hobbes.
baslimthebegger “It’s just hard to turn pages of books in gloves.”
I agree! If a sweater would be sufficient, I might go for it. But my fingers get so cold, and it is difficult to do much wearing gloves.
I figure I save the money in the summer, by not turning the A/C to artic temps.
The way I survived as a kid, was to hog all the hot air coming out of the forced air vent, by wrapping myself in a blanket and putting my feet on the vent, allowing the warm air to inflate my blanket balloon.
i hate the cold. it is to cold. :) Marg. where are you today?
~Hi, Tabbylynn! I went hiking this morning at 8:00 am, so I had to get up much earlier than usual. We hiked for an hour and 45 minutes, which included a hill with a 7% grade. I just rode my bike 10 miles, so now I’m finally sitting down to the comics. How’s your day going? I’m guessing that you live in or near New Orleans if you get Mardi Gras off. That’s one holiday we never had. ;-) Do you get to go to the parades? One of my friends down there goes to Barkus, and has sent pictures, very funny.
@RRAmom, have you considered gloves with the fingers (or just the tips) cut out? Monks used to use them (like for a thousand years) before the invention of central heating. :-)
MY CATS SYMPATHIZE WITH YOU, CALVIN. WE KEEP OUR TEMPERATURE DOWN TO FIGHT THE RISING COST OF FUEL HERE AND THE CATS WALK AROUND WITH THEIR FUR FLUFFED UP.
I had to sign up for this one! Could not help but advise on the folly of moving to Florida to solve this particular situation. Besides, isn’t home where we are supposed to dress comfortably?

His shooting his mouth off and having a fit should warm him up nicely.

Calvin’s “steaming” mad about the heat. That’s “fit”-ting.

Don’t move to Florida Calvin. I’m sure you will start complaining about the heat as soon as you get here.

Yes, don’t we all wish for new C&Hs. Maybe you could convince Mr. Watterson. Meanwhile, if all we have are reruns, they’re still better than nothing.

A nice and warm wooley ski cap stuffed in his mouth would help matters. (see http://www.gocomics.com/thebarn/2009/02/19/ )
