Calvin’s disappointment is really showing now!

When I was about 4 I was riding my tricycle and watching my cousin, across the street, instead of what I was doing. When I took a spill, I got up and shouted, “Look what you made me do!”

It made sense to me. If I hadn’t been looking at him I wouldn’t have wrecked, so of course it was his fault. That’s what I told myself. But I must have known better. Why else would I remember it?

It’s okay Calvin, even though you vent on Hobbes he’ll still be your friend.

This is one of Waterson’s best arcs. What it says about life and how we deal with it puts it right up there with the “meaning of life” strips.

“Subliminal”… Wow! That’s a heck of a word for a kid his age.

Calvin is saying more than he knows. Hobbes is his psychological Shadow made manifest, and right now under stress, making the conscious Calvin jump into the septic tank’s probably the least damage he’d wish on him.

In simpler words, Lonewolf is right. In blaming Hobbes, Calvin ironically blames himself.

Good morning everyone! This is priceless! I love the gestures and facial expressions. And that “aaarrrggghhh!” is so Charlie Brown. Poor Calvin, the old saying “You’ve only got yourself to blame” is so true here when Calvin blames Hobbes.

I know people who still do this, blame others for their mistakes…

My better half and me can’t decide which of us is Calvin and which is Hobbes. Look what you made me do.

We don’t appreciate it when we’re six, but eventually these experiences can teach us to handle the things that wind up in our hands with greater care, whether they’re material goods or immaterial things (like friendships and people’s feelings). Without such lessons we may risk doing damage on a larger and greater scale than Calvin did to his beanie. Wonder if he ever grew up to understand that lesson.

Yes, he knows a lot of big words for his age, and seems knowledgable beyond his years. That’s one thing he has in common with the Peanuts gang. Calvin also does algebra in school and creates the most amazing snowman sculptures (granted, they look like they belong in the front yard of the Addams family). Aren’t comic strips fun!

In most families today, the kid would show it to mom or dad who would get on the phone to the company and threaten to sue them if they didn’t overnight another one. When we were kids my mom would sit us down and explain how you never get anything for nothing. I was always trying to get her to buy cereal for the junk inside, but I hated cereal and wouldn’t eat it. My brother only ate shredded wheat, so I was up the creek as far as cereal premiums went.

I love panel 3. With all Calvin’s slugging, he proves to be nothing more than a minor annoyance to Hobbes.

You beat me to the punch. I thought to myself while reading the strip that Calvin could have a successiful career as a politician. Always take credit when events are good and blame others when events go to the septic tank.

…and for all those who don’t know or remember the story line, Calvin didn’t really break it as we will see tomorrow. He’s just panicking. Again, more life commentary by Waterson - how immature people who don’t carefully consider what they’re doing or know the facts, driven by a sense of urgency, will blame anything and anyone else for their own incompetence and failure. They fail to realize that the path that they are on will only create more damage until the wake up to the truth and course-correct.

WOW! Sounds just like our liberal administration and Congress!

hey backwards – that’s precisely what what we were subjected to by the right wing, conservative administration for eight years. when it comes to inane blather the tea party and the becks and palins of the world win easily every time.

Calvin is just getting to his favorite hobby–fighting with Hobbes. (Isn’t that the real rule of Calvinball, and Get Rid Of Slimy girlS, and other such activities?)

Looking at panel three, I thought for a minute that he just might.

Somehow I can’t really see Calvin as a lawyer. More a scientist type, or author, or even an artist.

Blaming Hobbes makes as much sense as blaming a politician Hobbes is Calvin imaginary friend and politicians are our collected wishes of some one to do what I want .again imaginary

It’s funny how people blame others for there mistakes. Calvin needs to learn to take responsibility for his own actions.

I wish the people here that knows how a story goes (like this one, for instance) would please quit spoiling it for the rest of us who either didn’t read it the first time around or maybe saw it the first time around but don’t remember how it goes because it’s been so long since it first appeared.

Why doesnt calvin buy the cereal and cut out the boxes and eat the cereal over time???

Tommygunn369, Calvin and Hobbes is one of the best comic strips of all time, and fans will still be enjoying it and commenting on it a hundred years from now!

I think it’s alright as long as the post has a ‘Spoiler Alert’ in the first line.

I hereby officially propose this for consideration.

It always amuses me how the majority of “spoilers” that get posted have the story wrong!

…Sue Calvin Sue!…We can bring a law suit against the manufacturer, and maybe even Hobbs too…
