Not to stir it up again, but I think the recent flap was about someone frustrated with trying to be the first to post, and failing. After all, it’s hard (read: almost impossible) to beat marg.

I, too, have felt that frustration.

Having proved it possible, i deleted my post a few minutes later and re entered it.

It’s a very nice comic today!

A warm fuzzy strip, especially for Calvin! But who is “Marg” and why is it important that her name be first in the Comments section? Or am I infringing on some private clique here…?

I love my soft and huggy animals. they have decided to join me every night when I go to bed. one at the foot of the bed (my dog) and one on the bed by my side (the cat). then they all leave when the wife gets home for work.

I love being able to snuggle - soft fuzzy animals (stuffed or live) or paramour. I imagine Moe not even having that chance with his family - and that’s where he loses.

As to Marg being first? Well, I’d have to be up at 1 AM to beat her, and as I’m never going to do that, I simply look with anticipation each morning to see her smiling avatar.

I get up about 5 am CST…I will never be first, and that’s OK. I love reading all the comments and occasionally comment back. For the record, Marg is always appreciated for her notes, and Puddleglum for the puns. I don’t always get the chance to comment, but it’s always nice to know that the universe has a certain balance, and it’s reflected here! Love you all!

I second Linda’s comment, and enjoy reading all the comments.

Sometimes I prefer animals to people. At least you know where you stand with animals & there is unconditional love.

On being first – it’s generally good, as “the early bird gets the worm”. But sometimes it is not so good. “The second mouse gets the cheese” … :P

Love it! Hug power! We all need it after (or before) a hard day (or hour, or minute or …) and even during the good times.

I am 25 and still have one of those stuffed animals, that sometimes I just need to hug!!

Amy38 we are all just trying to encourage Marg, she is usually the first one to post, and someone said something mean to her about it the other day! It’s not that she HAS to be first, it just feels right when she is! But I think that Marg wouldn’t mind at all if someone else posted before her!

This has been a fine start to my late Thursday morning.

Second and third comments above - I’m not an early bird, but C&H is always my first stop on GoComics. If Marg’s comment isn’t at the top,,, the equilibrium of the universe is disturbed and my whole day becomes one discombobulated event after another - Marg - you keep my internal feng shui at peace. This is my first time making a comment, but I have been reading the strip for about a year and I have to say I love to read everybody’s comments and I feel like I know you all. I love seeing marg at the top every morning with a good comment every day! =)

I wonder how much a tattoo of Calvin and Hobbes in that last frame would cost…?

My cat always rubs my hand when I put his food in his dish. That makes me feel good. Dose that count as a cuddle ?

This one of the biggest reasons why I love my dog so much. She’s sweet, “huggy”, non-judgmental and forgiving of all my human weaknesses … which is something you can’t always get from people – not even your own family (no matter how much you love them and they love you). And whenever I look at her and she looks back at me with those big brown eyes, no matter how bad a day I’ve had, it just all melts away and everything in life is good again (at least for a little while anyhow).

My hedgehog isn’t soft and huggy, but I love him all the same.

I’ve had a dog since I was 10 years old when my grandparents got me a puppy for my birthday! I now have Max who’s a german shephard beagle mix. I got him 13 years ago as a mistreated puppy at the dog shelter. He was very fearful of people and still screams if you try to pick him up which makes me think he was dropped or thrown. He loves to have a good massage but no hugs please. Max shows affection by rubbing his head against you like a cat and loves it when you do it back to him. I give him lots of praise and kisses and he’s learned to sit and rollover. He still loves to play tug of war with a t-shirt and playing fetch with his squeaky ball.

I don’t post very often but read the strip every day and love reading all the comments which would appear to be made by a crowd of very friendly people. Hi to everyone.

Lovin’ the “it takes a Village” here! Calvin & Hobbes is my first stop at gocomics, and I’ve taken to reading the comments, too, as part of the ritual. Such a kick to see the “good mornings!” sent out and the general spam-bashing, and all that jazz. Yay, TEAM!

This is a special comic site for many and some of us look for Marg to be at the top every day. Like someone said, it not that it has to be that way, it just is! And we like it! Go Marg!

Thirdguy mentioned Puddleglums sex as male and to be quite frank, I never saw it mentioned what Puddleglum was. Interesting. I have my little dachsund curled up around my feet now as I write. Animals are so soothing. And… face the facts. Marg is this strip. Thanks Marg for making this square, orderly person feel comfortable every day that I open this strip.

What I love about Bill Watterson is his fearlessness; he’s never been afraid to forego humor for a warm moment. It’s what everyone needs once in a while.
