<< Monday, ♥Kab♥ Buch said: I am going to comment for some can’t understand me please ignore…….I am not an English major. I will be taking a class online…….I just want to enjoy the strips without criticism. >>

    To ♥Kab♥ Buch:

We are happy to have you as part of this group, and we are glad to have your comments. Please comment as often as you wish.

    To everyone:

Some of the best people that I have ever met had difficulty with English. Kab is obviously a very kind person, because on Saturday, she was graciously trying to compliment all of us on this site for our funny comments, saying that it was too bad that Calvin couldn’t read our comments and put them into the strip. But because her English was difficult to understand, someone wrote a comment in reply which clearly hurt her.

When a person has difficulty with English, it takes a lot of courage for them to write things for others to read. When we are reading her comments, we may notice some problems with the English. But at the same time, we need to ask ourselves whether we have the kind of courage that she does.

Every person has strengths and weaknesses. Whenever we notice a weakness in another person, we need to turn it into an opportunity to look for a strength in that same person, and to be honest with ourselves about our own weaknesses.

Okay! I come here because I like to read the comics. This is supposed to be a friendly forum, and indeed many of us have friends here. So I ask you all why are there still those who feel the need to boost their Egos by attacking those who post first or those who make typos in their English. I’m not perfect. I make mistakes too. I have made mistakes that had nearly got me banned from this site, and I learned my lesson.

I like to read the comics, and I like to make comments as well, but you are wrong if you think I enjoy reading comments that attack people putting them down. To me it is like a hate crime, and it is not right. I refuse to criticize anyone here, and I myself don’t want to be criticized in return, just as none of you want to be criticized. Now if you all will excuse me, I shall resume to commenting on this wonderful comic strip.

Calvin you better think about what you are about to do. Your actions may lead to consequences that will not be in your favor.

Hobbes, well said! Everyone should always feel welcome to post comments here. It’s sort of embarrassing and I might get flamed, but I will admit, it does grind my gears some mornings that marg insists on posting not only on the Calvin comic first, but Lio as well (I assume others, but honestly I don’t want to know). I can’t explain why it irritates me, it just does. Just as she is entitled to post FIRST every. single. day…. I am entitled to be annoyed by it. ….perhaps I’m just not a morning person.

    Hi noodlesinmymouth

I think it only bothers you because this is an anonymous forum and you have never had a chance to meet Marg personally. And I believe that if you met her, and could talk to her, you would discover that she is a great person who is just doing it for fun, partly because many people comment that they really enjoy seeing her post first.

Personally, I like seeing Marg post first. I figure that she is so dedicated staying up so late every night in her time zone (except for the few nights when she falls asleep and misses her chance), that she has earned the right to do it. I posted first a couple of times, but since then when I have had the opportunity to be first, I have waited a few minutes for her post to appear, and then I have posted second. For me, it was fun to do that for Marg, and it was fun to see her posting magically appear right on schedule.

Please take a look back at the time when Marg was the first poster on Veterans Day, November 11th, 2010. What a wonderful way to start off the day by honoring our veterans:

    http://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/2010/11/11

Human communication usually works best when we can be in the same place with the other person, seeing their eyes and body language, and hearing their voice. When all we have is the written word from someone we have never met in person, it can sometimes be very difficult to judge their motives.

Thanks noodlesinmymouth, but I don’t know Marg in real life either. Wish I did. I was basing my opinion of her on things she has said in the past, and on things others have said about her.

In this forum, unfortunately the best we can do is to read a whole lot of comments by people to try to understand them and get to know them.

Kab Buch, keep posting anytime you want. I didn’t post at first for fear of being misunderstood or thought of as a total %#JAD(no way)*%% . The people here are wonderful and have shown me different ways of looking at things. Thanks for all the fun!! Everyone have a Great day.

In the real world, if you leave a hose on a spigot in such weather, it freezes and the basement floods when next you use it, if not immediately! Calvin may have gotten it out for his attack, but we hope Dad puts it away before it freezes.

I guess Calvin’s in for a truly icy glare from his father should he follow his defensive impulse. And the hose … if it’s attached to a “sill-cock” that has an airbreak in it, it’s quite possible the hose could be empty of water before being used. However, for the purposes of the humor, who cares? It’s fun, interesting, and if Calvin had physically destroyed the snow goons it wouldn’t have left us a story line … .

noodlesinmymouth & Hobbes. I do know Marg and she is a very nice person. I get great comfort when I see her post first thing when I check out this wonderful comic. As your time at gocomics progresses you find out that the people who comment here pretty much encompass most every type of person whom you would meet in your own world. Some are caring and kind, like marg and others release the angst that is affecting their personal lives through their comments. For the most part the people whom I have gotten to know through their comments and some beyond the gocomics family have made my mornings here very special and after grabbing my coffee mug this is where I choose to begin my day, because more often than not, after I have read my comic queue, I leave here a happier individual.

@cleo, and all the others, I agree: it does help to know the persons, even if only through wires and black marks on a monitor. It helps even more if we take a deep breath, let go of it with our anger or irritation, and don’t ascribe bad motives to others. It’s been suggested for at least 2500 years that the highest good of the human person is love: caring about one another. I am willing to practice it until I get good at it. I welcome you to join me.

By the way, Calvin–be careful when Dad comes out that his eyes don’t ice over…

I’m adding my own 5 cents worth here. (Inflation.) To me, it doesn’t matter who post first or last. I enjoy many of the comments & the camaraderie here.

Next, “Kab”, even those of us born in the US have been known to fracture our own language. Mastering a new language is not easy & I applaud anyone who is learning. And I enjoy learning about other cultures & making friends with a variety of people.

Finally, I don’t post often but pop in & out every day. I’ve been a Calvin & Hobbes fan from the very start. When I discovered this site & all the C&H fans here, it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling.

We’ve got snow & freezing rain here. Stay warm & safe everyone!

Thank you again for all the kind remarks. This is a fun bunch of people that meet here everyday. Some people do have difficulties with English, many times because it is not their first language. As Gweedo said, Wild Mustang mainly communicates in AMSLAN, and the syntax is different than that of spoken English. LX013’s first language is German, and I think she does a marvelous job with her English. Thanks to RMOM for telling us that Kab has a learning disability that makes it difficult for her to write English. I can’t do math to save my life! ;-)

Sister Kab, my writing has actually become more icky and childlike, since I have started commenting. I think it depends on my mood and comfort level. There are many people here with different problems some become apparent in their comments and some don’t. I’d say don’t let it bother you, but that doesn’t really help. Do know that there are many people here who enjoy reading your comments and admire the person you are, especially the part of you that has the courage to continue trying to make improvements in your life and your person.
