Hobbes will be glad if there is a piano ‘tuna’! (That one works especially well in Central and Eastern Massachusetts).

Calvin doesn’t need ‘driving’ lessons. He has been driving his parents crazy since he was perpetually six years old.

In the 2nd panel: Calvin’s mother drives her car the way Calvin sleds downhill.

Since Calvin said “no” eleven times, I assume that piano lessons rank 11th on a ‘scale’ of 1 to 10! Calvin will make a ‘concerted’ effort to avoid piano lessons. He’ll be ‘composing’ various excuses. “Etude, Brute?”, I mean Mom.

Now Calvin doesn’t want piano lessons. What’s ‘sonata’ with him? If Calvin plays his ‘chords’ right, he could be performing on the ‘Opera’ Winfrey Show before too long!

Where’s his life vest in case he falls out of the car??? After all, he’s not wearing his seat belt… He may not even make it to Tuesday if he isn’t careful.

Calvin my cousin’s mom made him take piano lessons. He did not like it but endured it. Now as an adult has forgotten all those dreded lessons. Funny I always wanted to learn to play piano. Parents did not have one nor the money for lessons.

I took piano lessons for years. Even some as an adult. I still play and I love it so much! But the lessons themselves I didn’t like, and the recitals were hell.

Most of the boys in my area took their “driving lessons” on John Deeres, Farmalls, etc – hundreds of hours cultivating corn and beans. Plus pick-up trucks (no license needed on own property) By the time we could get a drivers license, the road test was a breeze. (Imagine hours going down rows and having to steer plus/minus one inch left/right!)

Two of my granddaughters need piano lessons. Everytime they visit, it’s BANG BANG BANG on an old piano we have. (last tuned in 1943) But last visit, it was -thud-thud-thud. “Grandpa – there’s something wrong with the piano!” “Well, I’ll have someone look at it.” (I suspect it might have something to do with the towels I threw over the hammers!)

What Hobbes needs to do is convince Calvin of the power over women you have if you can play the piano, even more so if you can sing along with it. Unfortunately, I can do neither, and at 68, it doesn’t make any difference anyway…Puddleglum – your crack about driving lessons was terrific – gave me a good smile, thanks
