Since Hobbes is a figment of Calvin’s imagination, and Hobbes is in love with Susie, that means that Calvin is really in love with her too, he just won’t admit it. So the only thing left to do is try to torment her, the same way he is subconsciously tormented be his love for her. He is just trying to get her attention, the way little kids do.
