Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for October 24, 2015
Transcript:
Calvin: The teacher didn't believe my leaves were from an alien planet. Calvin: She said it was obvious I did the whole thing last night and I made a mockery of the assignment. Well, She'll be sorry when the aliens send her to the plutonium mines. Calvin: She just won't admit it was a pointless project. Who cares about leaves?!! What useless knowledge! Hobbes: I believe that's poison sumac you're holding. Calvin: This?? What makes you say that?

Miss Wormwood’s revenge! Not only will he be itching to learn more about leaves, but (with any luck) he’ll be out of class for a few days.

Poison Sumac. Have not seen or heard of it since leaving New York umpteen decades ago. However, not to worry. Out here we have poison oak which is worse – the leaves, the branches, and even the animals that brush up against it.

Until the parents find out that the aliens are doing like they do every night: they’re planning to take over the world. Sorry, my timeline may be a little off. Pinkie and the Brain may not have influenced Bill Watterson at all.

I’m not sure there is any limited space, as defined as how far a 6-year child can travel on his own, that one can find more than 20 species of trees…unless the project allows for weeds and flower “leaves” as well.

I learned the hard, painful way how to identify Poison Ivy.

With the power of knowledge, Calvin could be holding his own future in his hands. Without it, ……..

I’ve known some teachers which would have given him a good grade for originality. As a teacher myself I find Ms. Wormwood’s lack of adaptability here disappointing.

Really? I never knew that.Hobbes Premium Member about 9 years ago
There can also be a price to pay for knowledge.Knowledge can lead to better-paying jobs, which can lead to more possessions, which can end up dominating our lives, if we don’t also have the wisdom to limit our possessions and control how we spend our time with them. There is always a price to pay for knowledge without wisdom.

Calvin and Hobbes should end in 2016. I think it will end on the first Sunday of 2016.

He means the current re-run will end sometime in early 2016. Then it will start over at the very beginning of the strip.

I don’t suppose we should point out to Calvin that plutonium isn’t mined? (doesn’t exist in nature)
jpb6891 about 9 years ago
Calvin clearly has ADHD and high functioning autism. Notice how Calvin is always in his world and only seems to have a friendship with Hobbes? Hobbes is not a stuffed tiger in my opinion. Hobbes is a real tiger in the comic.

putting posion sumac in the sleeves of miss wormwood’s coat, or her mittens, or shoes could be just revenge.

Sigh. There you go again! The story is that mankind spoke only one language until, in their arrogance, they decided to build a tower to heaven. When the Celestials saw this happening (in the city of Babel), the deity confounded their cooperative effort by causing the workers to suddenly start speaking different “tongues.” Therefore, the project had to be abandoned. Most think that’s where the word “babble” came from. Others say the word has a Middle English origin.

Paying attention in class can be the difference between noticing the poison ivy plant and noticing you have a poison ivy rash!

An empty head is not really empty; it is stuffed with rubbish. Hence the difficulty of forcing anything into an empty head…

Plutonium mine? How about the aliens send Miss Wormwood to the dilithium mines that’s way worse than a plutonium mine (ST: Nemesis)
