I wonder if Calvin and Hobbes ran into Robert Frost and his horse on this new path.

Today’s strip is from two weeks before the end of Calvin and Hobbes. It contains some of Bill Watterson’s thoughts on pursuing a new path, accepting new challenges, etc. It also looks like Bill’s new horizons and fresh challenge are up in the air.

Apparently, Nietzche was right.

I wouldn’t feel so smart if I had done that.

The last trip I ever made on our ‘sledding hill’ nearly ended like Calvin and Hobbs. My sled stopped just short of a gully carved by a creek that ran through town. If it hadn’t stopped,I would have ended up thirty feet down in the middle of that creek in about a foot and a half of water. That was why it was my final trip down the hill !

Hobbes says right from the start, “I don’t see a path”. To boldly go where no human has gone before. Isn’t that how Star Trek opens? I do a lot of hiking. When I lose the path, the consequences are never very good. I’m lost, and have no idea what I’m going to run into. I prefer to follow the paths other people have taken before me, but I must admit, it’s pretty exciting to make your own path, to boldly go where no human has gone before!

Calvin stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night…

I like change! When I return home after an enjoyable evening, I take the change out of my pocket and put it in a large container…

Here is another concept of saving for a rainy day…

On their wedding night, the young bride approached her new husband and asked for $20.00 for their first encounter.In his highly aroused state, her husband readily agreed.

This scenario was repeated each time they made Love, for more than 40 years, with him thinking that it was a cute way for her to afford new clothes and other incidentals that she needed.

Arriving home around noon one day, she was surprised to find her husband in a very drunken state. During the next few minutes, he explained that his employer was going through a process of corporate downsizing, and he had been let go. It was unlikely that, at the age of 59, he’d be able to find another position that paid anywhere near what he’d been earning, and therefore, they were financially ruined.

Calmly, his wife handed him a bank book which showed more than forty years of steady deposits and interest totaling nearly $1 million. Then she showed him certificates of deposits issued by the bank which were worth over $2 million, and informed him that they were one of the largest depositors in the bank.

She explained that for more than three decades she had “charged” him, the holdings had multiplied and these were the results of her savings and investments. Faced with evidence of cash and investments worth over $3 million, her husband was so astounded he could barely speak, but finally he found his voice and blurted out,“If I’d had any idea what you were doing, I would have given you all my business!”

That’s when she shot him.

You know, sometimes, men just don’t know when to keep their mouths shut!

That’s the last time they’ll fall off like that.

The only people who love change are the ones who force other people to change so that they don’t have to.
