The suburbs are more dangerous than most people realize.

Well clearly “here” isn’t safe enough for protection from tiger attacks.

Could Hobbes himself even survive two seconds in a concrete jungle?

Hobbes would’ve been brilliant for “The Lion King”.

Calvin, no matter where you go it’s always a jungle out there.

I don’t think Hobbes would survive two seconds in a jungle either. He’s too suburbanized.

Calvin’s so lucky to have such a caring playmate.

This is probably the twentieth time I’m reading this one. The creative talent of Mr. Watterson is truly phenomenal.

Inspector Clouseau v. Cato from The Pink Panther Strikes Again came immediately to mind.

Calvin should be more respectful, it isn’t everyday a stuffed tiger gives you life lessons with such passion.

I wonder why they say Lions are the king of the jungle when they really don’t live in a jungle. I think Tigers are the true kings.

This cartoon goes along with an article I wrote on Linked-in called “Differently Smart.”

It is not likely that managers will pick a pygmy to be on their teams.

My step-niece did anthropological research with the pygmies for her PhD. She was impressed with their honesty even though it was brutal. They told her that they felt sorry for her because she was too ugly to get a husband: she was white, she was tall (even by western standards) and she was too skinny (apparently pygmy men like women with “meat on their bones.”)

Pygmies also think that Americans and Europeans are dumb. They can’t last two seconds in the jungle on their own without getting into some kind of trouble. And they are right.

If I am out in the jungle, I want a pygmy on my team.

And the tigers in the jungle aren’t benevolent either.

Apparently “here” is not that safe either, Calvin.

Be alert! The world needs more lerts.

Who walks under a tree without looking up? There could have been a queen snake in that tree. Calvin was lucky it was only Hobbes.

Suburban survival skills are rarely taught in school these days.

When I was younger my friend and I once recited this strip to our parents.

You need to Pay Attention and Be Alert Everywhere ! Just Common Sense.

Dogs eat the first animal to drop after an extended chase – thus improving the stamina of the prey species. Cats lie in wait to pounce upon the unwary – thus improving the alertness of the prey species. (Ignoring lions who scare prey into running into the jaws of waiting lionesses, thus improving the wisdom and courage of the prey species.)

Is this Hobbes’ revenge for what Calvin did to him yesterday?

That is why so dangerous in the city.

The World is jungle, you either fight or run for ever.

Be alert. The world needs more Lerts.

Hobbes, once in a while jolt to Calvin is required to know your importance.
