It’s a good thing Hobbes is self-aware. Most tigers would be too proud to admit to smelling funny part.
Tigers will say anything to avoid getting wet.
Tigers know how to swim naturally.

And yet, they have no problem licking themselves.
Would the funny smell be of —oh, I don’t know — chlorine?
Lol – Mom in panel 3. God bless parenting.
I think I remember this story arc. Isn’t Roslyn the swimming instructor?
Fact: cat’s hate water but they all love a cardboard box.
This story arc is a good one. Just wait until you meet his swimming instructor!
You don’t smell funny, you smell fishy!!
Wait till you get put in the washing machine, Hobbes……
And if he’s vintage, the stuffing might possibly come out if he gets soaked. I had that happen with a plushie—scared the wits out of me as a kid!
Good call by Mom…she’d save a packet on the extra fees too… :D
Hobbes now has me thinking of “Smelly Cat”
He had better learn fast since the shallow end of the pool is usually 3’ deep, way over his head. Don’t see a swim suit. Are the lessons at the Y so he won’t need one?
Some day her eyeballs will stick up there.
You’ll love swimming lessons Calvin. It’s the first step to Navy UDT which means blowing things up. Study hard little dude.
In real life, tigers love water.
Hobbes has a valid point there!
Good thing that it is not a YMCA pool in the 1950s, or mom wouldn’t have been bringing a swimsuit for Calvin.
Tigers are actually very good swimmers
“Tiger, tiger, burning bright;
After swimming, don’t smell right…"
You,d smell funny too if you had that many layers.
I’ve never liked parents that sign their kids up for things without telling or talking to them about it.
Can’t be much worse than a wet dog…
They’ll smell funny after they’re dry, too.
Actually, Tigers love the water
And little boys smell funny until you do get them “wet”….
He’ll change his tune when he discovers the CANNONBALL!!!!
I read sometime ago that tigers are really excellent swimmers.
Love the sarcastic mom in the third panel.
I think tigers like water.
