Boy, is THIS ever an old strip. You couldn’t get two minutes at a community college for $5. Not that you should WANT to anyway. If I had a kid, I’d want him/her to go to a trade school and learn something that makes them money (preferably a lot of it) without lectures telling them how awful they are because of things they have no control over.
Elitists sneer at trade schools, but they’ll also be calling that plumber son or electrician daughter for help when their pipes burst or a short inside the wall knocks out power in their home. Someone with a B.A. in Humanities won’t be of much help.
Five dollars in change? Since change is typically about 20% to 25% of the dollar you spend, then that means that Calvin had to spend at least $20 to get that change. If he is rich at $5 then what was he when he had $20?
I was with dad up until a couple of years ago. I investigated putting in solar panels on my roof and also replacing the 40 windows in our house with storm windows (did I mention we live in a fish bowl). While both of these were good investments, I turned them down.
I’d be in my mid-90’s by the time the solar panels paid off (and they would be half-way through their life by then) and well in to my 100’s by the time the windows paid off.
My wife and I will spend the money on a couple of cruises or maybe an extra trip or two to see the grandchildren.
I leave it to my children to make these home improvements.
How arbitrary is our drill, 4 years of high school and then either college or a job? Why not 6 years of high school? Given the progress of automation, why does “everyone” need a job?
If Dad wants to know why Calvin is the way he is, all he has to do is look in the mirror. He’s obviously trying to get love and attention from a cold, unfeeling and uncaring father

Savings accounts are out. You just lose money through inflation. Better under your bed.

College? Why worry about college? Calvin will be in jail or in the Marines before he’s legal drinking age.

College… the kid dreads 1st grade every morning. You now want him to PAY for higher education…..LMFAO.

doing a VERY rough calculation, $5 at a school with $30K /year tuition should result in just over 8 hours of school.

Save! Otherwise, every two minutes in college is 20 minutes to pay it off.
