Mom: You agreed to dinner and a movie with a man you don't like, Cathy? Cathy: I had to. I turned him down for drinks four times. Mom: What does that have to do with it?? Cathy: It's the multiplication of guilt, Mom. Turn a man down for drinks twice and you owe him lunch...Turn him down for lunch, you owe him dinner...turn him down for lunch and drinks, you owe him Sunday brunch. Mom: That's ridiculous. Just call and say you can't make it. Cathy: If I cancel dinner and a movie, I have to marry him.
I never have been able to figure out why Mom has a nose but Cathy doesn’t.
