Mom: Look...It's right here! "Simplify Thanksgiving by buying your whole meal pre-cooked from the deli"! Cathy: WHAT?? Mom, you watch every cooking show...study every cookbook...send me thousands of recipes......And you want to buy a pre-cooked meal from the deli for Thanksgiving?? Mom: Why send a mixed message when you can send one that's whisked, julienned, marinated, parboiled and pureed? Cathy: I give up. Dad: Mother always overdoes for the holidays.

My step mother used to have tons of cookbooks that she enjoyed reading just for the sake of reading them. She never made any of the recipes in them. That seemed like such a waste to me. But this is so much worse.

So do I, Cathy. This isn’t getting me into the warm, cozy Thanksgiving mood.

Where all the tiring fun. We here will smoke are turkey with hickory chips. We don’t have a fryer and I don’t think I want one have to be super carefull of a fryer so doesn’t catch buildings on fire. The ones coming to our home will be bring different dishes. For sweet potatoes instead of marshmallows I will use crumb topping with nuts. I have to agree Cathy’s strip is a downer. I hope the strip has good weather here in Kansas are weather will be in the 50”s no snow.

I too enjoy reading recipes in cookbooks. Better than actually cooking them and eating all those calories! But now and then I do cook them if they look specially good. Like those lamb patties with all kinds of Middle Eastern herbs and spices…. mmmmm…… aaahhh….. better the spices than fats!

Her mother used to cook a whole “proper” meal. Now that Cathy wants to learn how to do it, she doesn’t anymore. It seems her Mother has some almost biological urge to driver her daughter crazy
