Never mind Grandma - my Gran can’t cook. Give me Grandpa’s bratwurst! Yummmmm!!!

Stuffing recipes are like meatloaf recipes, everyone has a different one. But my grandma’s cornbread recipe was the greatest!

Ian, WE invented the Internet. We wrote the comic. You play nice and get the joke or stay in your own little sphere.

Love Thanksgiving, just plain stuffing for me, but I say make them all and eat them all!

That’s right, baggybut – you can never have too much stuffing, so make ‘em all!

Ian, we really don’t care what the rest of the world thinks of us when we want to make a celebration of being thankful. I am married to a European and know plenty from other countries, and they all enjoy Thanksgiving in their own way. Seriously Ian, there is plenty in EVERY country that can be mocked. At least we attempt to be tolerant of other beliefs and celebrations…

And besides, Ian, there are other major religious and cultural holidays in December besides Christmas. Ever hear of a little thing called Hannukah? And another called Kwanzaa? I don’t celebrate either of those two, but I’m not going to pretend that they (and the faiths and cultures that do celebrate them) don’t exist just because some of my fellow Christians don’t think that those particular holidays count!

“Happy Holidays” (which, methinks, is the real basis of your complaint) doesn’t take away from Christmas; rather, it enhances that particular holiday’s meaning by actually demonstrating the love, tolerance, and compassion that Jesus Christ taught and exemplified throughout his mortal ministry. To quote from my Lord, Ian, “Go and do thou likewise.”

At least, Cathy and her realitives are all getting along so far, and her mother-in-law has finally quit her “poor pitiful me” schtick…for now.

I’d say something to Ian, but it appears everyone else already has.

@Ian - Frankly, I miss “Merry Christmas”, too, but why on Earth could anyone hold it against an entire nation for celebrating Thanksgiving? To us it’s not a silly celebration; it’s a family gathering to remember and remind each other of all that we have to be thankful for. There’s nothing wrong with that.

On the subject of the strip, this is getting old fast. The entire storyline seems to be acting like it’s weird or wrong that Cathy’s mom doesn’t want to cook a full meal one year out of her life. I’m all for tradition, but I feel like every strip here is “zawmg cooking shows and frozen peas lol” just worded differently.

I don’t think that anyone really thinks that it’s weird or wrong, BananaSlug, just that it seems so out of character for Cathy’s mom not to be all Betty Crocker/Martha Stewart about it (especially given the rivalry between her and Irving’s mom!)

Yeah – bummer to have missed some more garbage slinging – glad it got removed!
