How come my pockets are stuffed with HER junk every time we go to the theater? Why can’t she understand that jacket pockets are supposed to be empty? That’s why God put them there, to be flat and empty.

Side pockets on jackets are strange. Without them jackets look silly, put something in them and they look silly. I once had a jacket that had side pockets but they were sticthed together so nothing could be put in them. Go FIGURE.

Personally, I appreciate a pair of pants with front and back pockets more than a fancy purse. I put my essentials in my pockets and the purse is just more of an “off-site storage facility.”

    – personal note – Thank you to everyone who commented on our good news yesterday. Even though we may not always agree on the comics, it sure feels good to know that we support each other on other things. :-)

Good grief, Cathy, get a denim jacket with lots of pockets; not only are they always fashionable, you can store all kinds of stuff in them…even a snack.

Though personally I have NEVER liked Thin Mints–yuck!

@lightenup: Glad to hear all’s well with your daughter. :)

She needs a back pack. She’ll throw her back out with that thing. Plus if it’s full enough, it will make her butt look smaller ;)

mcveinot - that’s what I’ve been saying! The one-strap black backpack is the greatest invention since penicillin!

HappyChappy, I’ve had several things that had pockets, but were for some reason sewn closed. I just pulled the thread out and used the pockets.

Cathy stores her thin mints in her hips. She skips that middle step of stashing, and goes from package straight to mouth. Nothing left for MIL to organize straight into her own mouth.

I carried a purse around for over 35 years and got tired of lugging one around. I was envious of guys who look so free with just a wallet in their pocket. So I found a flat womens wallet that has room for all the cards and cash, and now my arms have been purse-free for four years. I’ll never go back!

Somebody should “stash” the saleslady – and the handbag might be large enough.

Back in the day, sewn shut pockets were a sign of prestigious (read expensive) clothing. Not used very much anymore – and often found in less expensive clothing when it is used (or maybe they just forgot to open the pockets).

I generally only carry my purse with me when I need to bring a book with me to read or to carry a stash of Splenda for my tea… or feel the need for whacking someone with it.

I believe that the reason pockets are sewn shut prior to purchase is to keep them from opening and getting misshapen, as they often do with a lot of use.

You are supposed to pull the thread and open them before you wear the garment.
