So, now that we know Irving has caught Cathy (using the Internet for personal projects), will he rat her out to the boss?
Wow. This could have been an interesting twist point in the strip. The boss, frustrated at the corruption of his staff, fires everyone, sells the company and forces everyone into a life change…
Would Cathy have forgiven Irving if THAT happened? Would she grow up and change her ways?
Then again, if you were Cathy’s company, wouldn’t YOU want to know how your employees were using YOUR property on YOUR time?
There’s a reason that companies hire people like Irving to monitor e-mails and employee usage of computers and the Internet while at work. Cathy is actually stealing from the company when she uses company equipment and resources to buy, for example, a tube of lip gloss on company time – not to mention what legal liability the company could face if she decided to use the Internet for illegal or immoral purposes while at work.
Cathy’s only real issue with Irving’s job is that she got caught doing something that she shouldn’t have been doing, and that she KNOWS that she shouldn’t have been doing. She’s lucky that she has to deal with Irving only at this point; in real life, she’d be down in HR begging for her job.
Mr. Catbert is waiting in H.R for Irving to rat out all of Mr. Pinkley’s people. His tail is probably already twitching in happy, evil, delightful anticipation of all the people he’s going to get to fire today!
