Here in the Atlanta area (not sure about the rest of GA), we start in the beginning of August and get out before Memorial Day. I know many other places start after Labor Day and finish in mid-June, but now that I’ve experienced this schedule (through my kids), I like this way better…June is cooler than August and finals are done before Christmas break (it wasn’t that way when I went to school). Plus, we get a week off for Thanksgiving and some extra time off in October and February (in addition to Spring Break in April). August 7 seems early, but I think we’re all ready to go back to school (except for getting up early… LOL!)

Why is Cathy wondering where everyone is today when just yesterday, she was trying to explain the concept of vacations to Mr. Pinkley when HE was wondering where everyone was and complaining because they weren’t “plugged in” to the office like he felt they should be while they were gone? I guess the few moments we’ve been glimpsing lately where Cathy was the sanest person amongst everyone else she was surrounded by is officially over with and now she’s back to being the biggest whack-a-doo in the room again. [sigh and an eye-roll!]

    Hi, rgcviper!

My relatives in South Carolina also start back to school early, but I don’t think it is quite this early. Poor Cathy — she finally has a date to talk about and nobody is around to listen. Whatever happened to Charlene?

Many of our provincial parks are too far from the main highways to have cell or wifi service. The one the gang and I were at this last weekend was one of them. No contact with the outside world – and I loved it. My wife was worried about how to reach me in case of emergency so I had to remind her of how it has been for the past 39 years (that is how long we have had this weekend reunion for the old highschool gang) – phone the park office and give them the message. The park staff will relay it to me so no problem at all. Of course, no one wants to bother the park staff unless it is a real emergency and that works well from my perspective – I would only hear about real emergencies and not trivial issues. So far, I have never been contacted. Came close the year my father-in-law died but since I was due home that day my wife just waited for me to arrive. Hi Clan. Had a fantastic holiday but it is still good be home again – and back reading my favourite comic and comments from the clan.

I must admit that this one balances out. In a twisted “Cathy” way, of course, but still.

    HI, MOM. Greetings, Clan.
