Irving: We're engaged. I can't believe it. I'm so happy. Cathy: Nervous happy? Irving: No. Just happy. Cathy: Panicky happy? Anxious happy? Remorseful happy? Hysterical happy? Suffocating happy? Freaked-ou happy? Psychotic-get-me-out-of-here-what-was-I-thinking happy??! Irving: Why can't I be just plain happy? Cathy: Wish I knew. I was born to accessorize.

Poor Irving. I could almost feel sorry for him if I didn’t think he was getting EXACTLY what he deserved for being dumb enough to propose to this whack-a-doodle to begin with.
Cathy’s attitude going in is just all messed up. If she’s feeling panicky, anxious, remorseful, suffocated, freaked out, etc., for having said yes instead of simply being happy about the decision she’s made (like Irving says he is), then she needs to have enough sense to back out and say “Sorry! Changed my mind! Don’t want to get married after all!” and give the poor schmuck an opportunity to find someone else who isn’t anywhere near as neurotic as she is. But, like I said above in my first paragraph . . .
