I feel like CarMax has changed this. I wouldn’t do a trade-in at the dealer, but I have gotten a very fair deal from CarMax. Sure, I might have been able to squeeze a couple hundred dollars more from a private party, but I’ve heard of so many bad stories that it’s not worth the small amount.
