It’s a nice FANTASY, but most people in the 1700’s were ignorant, and in service or farming, unless born into an aristocratic family. Does Mona HAVE a Duke or Earl in her family line? If not, she’d most likely be a parlor maid, not holding the salon.
And its a good thing she pick England too - France back then was not a pretty place.
Sure, 1700’s sound great - no running water, no sewage systems, baths once a year (whether you need it or not), lots of broadcloth in the heat, horses to get around on (no one traveled much more than 5 miles from home).
OMC-USNR, while I agree that the 1700s are overly-romanticized and most people were living at what would be a subsistence level by today’s standards, I take exception to your disparaging words about France, specifically picking at it as if England was some paradise by comparison. Having read stories of life in England from those times, It would seem to have been quite unpleasant from our perspective. Most of the world lived in poverty until relatively recently. The main point should be to stop romanticizing times in which the vast majority of people lived as little more than slaves. Or serfs, if you prefer. That Mona would consider it “good” as long as she was on top of the heap just speaks to her own shallowness. A trait of most people, granted.

Mona did get a little caught up in her fantasy, didn’t she? Even Donna noticed!

That didn’t quite go where either of them expected. Methinks Mona is ripe for a little fondling and ravishing. What hath Ryan wrought?
