    Typical of the public education system. Go through the motions to fulfill the requirements, and completely miss the point.

    The trick is not to let them herd up. For instance, here—Donna and the kid got away with primarily talking to each other rather than any of the clients or regular workers. Even in the middle of poverty and service, they were able to remain isolated. Putting the kid with Donna allowed both of them to focus on another person who is essentially like them, and we gravitate toward the familiar.
