Donna ought to have been one of the popular crowd back in high school—cute, ditzy, and often self-centered. Her fatal flaw, from that perspective, is that she is not bitchy enough, having instead a good heart beneath the stereotypical exterior.

I have been to France many times and the rudest people I encountered were American tourists, much the same as anywhere else in the world I have been

The fun thing about Mona’s last line is that she’s being supportive, in her unique way.

Yeah, like the American rebels wouldn’t have had their butts kicked in the Revolutionary War if not for French aid.

And French tanks… the American Army ran on Renault tanks well into the 1920’s and there’s a story the last few Renault FT17’s in the American Army were deployed in Alaska in the early 1940’s against a Japanese invasion…(America being so badly stretched in so many other places that nothing better could be sent to pre-empt an invasion of North America )

I’ve been to France only once, but every French person that we encountered was pleasant and extremely helpful. The only rude people we encountered were, sad to say, American tourists. And, if we are going to list all the bad things about the French, the reason that a U.S. congressman re-named those pommes frit “Freedom Fries” was because the French thought that invading Iraq was a bad idea. Imagine that!

Yet, France is still looked as the model of everything cultured and at the forefront of fashion, cuisine, etc. Combine that with what’s been said about them before, and you get all of France coming together to perpetuate practical jokes against the rest of the world like convincing us that escargot is something they really eat and the rest of us should as well.
