French feet…. it was the French, after all, who named one Indian tribe as “les pieds noirs” . (The Blackfeet) And they should know!
Incidentally, “pieds noirs” was a derogatory term the mainland French used for settlers in Algeria. Apparently farming under the north African sun and insufficient washing did things to feet. Sufficiently so for other French people to notice!
