My grandparents wanted to take me with them on their caravan trip. I would have missed 7th & 8th grade. They drove from Cape Town up to Austria in ’62 – ’63. It would have been quicker if there had been roads.

I wouldn’t expect you to do cutesy animals (unless it involves Bassets!) and flowers and glitter. I’m OK with your dark humor and would miss it if you changed. Yesterday’s comments on poor Laika were just too sad….especially when we are all still reeling from the Newtown Tragedy. Doesn’t mean that I keep my head in the sand to avoid the real cruelty and evil that happens….only means that coming here usually provides brief relief from the bad things that occur in the real world.

The subject of the strip yesterday was unfortunate and ill-conceived, as Shika so eloquently pointed out. My admonition to you specifically was only because I count on you to be funny and to make me laugh! You pointed out the horrible truth. I just didn’t want to think about it.

So, at any rate, thank you for responding last evening. You are a prince among men!

My parents took me out of school for three months to do a road trip throughout the Western States along with my grandparents. I remember the trip as if it happened yesterday and that began my enduring love of road trips. I still remember standing on the beach and seeing the ocean for the first time. It was worth missing school.
