On our trip to Hawaii, I just read my first book on my iPad. I never thought that i would want to because I like to hold a book in my hand, but on an airplane having an illuminated screen was nice. And I could let my iPad stand sit on my table without needing to to hold it.Good morning Grog, Dry, sugie and the well read Citizens of Dog.
I have both a Kindle and a paper library. The Kindle is for when I am stuck in traffic, line at the post office (yes, I use snail mail) and airline traveling. The paper version is for sitting at home on the tin-roofed porch a rainstorm with a hot cup of tea, soft jazz or classical, and a snoozing cat. In both cases, I am happy.
We just finished redecorating a small spare bedroom as my library. In the process I have mislaid my Kindle. I really should be looking for that. Maybe after Christmas. Yeah. Definitely then.
Good morning my friends. I had 2 consecutive Kindles both of which developed the same problem. So I bought an iPad. I recently upgrade to an iPad 2 Air.
I also collect old books. Old as in 50+ years. I don’t have many yet. I read some modern paper and hardback books also. There is nothing like the feel and smell of a book. And the sound of the pages as you turn them.
I predict that paper books will gradually disappear. And that the only remaining books will be in museums and private libraries. Help preserve history. Collect printed books.
Avenger09s mother is in the hospital. She has bronchitis and congestive heart failure. Prayers are appreciated. Thanks.. Have a blessed day my friends.
Wow! Lots of people here that I definitely concur with! I LOVE reading real books, and have quite an extensive collection. We actually buy used books in very good condition on line for a mere fraction of the cost. (try a penny). I’ve downloaded two books onto my iPad in case the need arises. Not sure when that will be.
AND I repeat: preserve history. Collect paper and hardback books.
@ JPEG Steve: an excellent idea. I have a collection of audiobooks from Audible.com. Some Kindle books have an audiobook available also through the Amazon website.
I also have Fahrenheit 451 and the Martian Chronicls. Preserve film history. Collect old movies.
I have a LOT of books! I also have some first and second ediitons of VERY old books from my parents, esp. my father. He was an avid reader. He died in 2009, still was reading books with a magnifyer, and living in his own home at the age of 96. Some of those books I would love to sell to an antique book dealer as I have no interest, nor do my sons or husband, in those particular stories. I just don’t know where to start to find a reputable dealer. Any ideas, anyone?
And by the same token, some of his books I would never part with!
Good evening Fellow Baby, cleo, sugie and all ye’ gathered here.
Books are still being written. But it isn’t apparent on a “Kindle”. Although it should “kindle” one’s imagination to wonder how books are written now. Word processors likely have changed the process somewhat.
I have about six book cases full of books I have read. When I had to downsize a few years back, I “recycled”, that is, gave to libraries or Goodwill and also my church 20 BOXES of books, mostly paper back, some redundant hard covers- ALL read by me over my lifetime.I still give a book or two away every time I get a new one, if I don’t have space for it. I give them to folk who love books as much as I do, so I know they will be cherished and read.
@Dry and Dusty: I have a suggestion go to the Abe Books or Bibliofind websites. They sell many out of print books. They might suggest someone to contact. Alternately contact your local library or visit a local book shop that specializes in hard to find books. I hope my advice helps you. I will repost tomorrow morning. Have a blessed night my friend.
I changed from a Kindle to an iPad because part of the menu on my first and second Kindles could no longer be accessed. For example: my archive list and the bookstore. Have a blessed night my friend.

I read, I read on my computer and I read on my Tab4. A real live book, with pages and everything? Not in a long while.

I hate to tell you this, Mel, but I still read real books. I wouldn’t be caught dead reading an e-book. But I do get my news headlines on line.
Good morning, cleo, sugar, Fellow Baby & the rest of the CD gang!

I’ve gone one step further — I’ve discovered audiobooks. They read to me while I exercise and while I’m in bed…
The other day I tried to read a paper book in bed — my poor atrophied little arms couldn’t hold it up for more than twenty minutes!
