I remember growing up and trips with Mom to the laundromat. It was not that we couldn’t afford our own equipment, it was because the cost to visit the local establishment was cheap, and my Dad did the math and was convinced it was more cost effective than owning and repairing our own machines..Mom went along with it for a few years until she finally decided to not wash Dad’s clothes; if he wanted cleaned clothes, he would need to do it himself. I believe he made one trek to the “wash-o-mat” before we had a brand new pair of Maytags at home…
