    An Australian Rules football is similar to an American version, but there is no such position as a quarterback, as the rules prohibit throwing the ball.

    USAian footballs used to be a lot less pointy, before the emphasis shifted to the air game from the ground game.

    I use “USAian” (for which i cannot take credit - i picked it up on the rec.arts.sf.fandom newsgroup) to distinguish between a citizen of the US and an “American” - Mexicans, Canadians, Boliviand and Argentines are “Americans”, too.

    And definitely, “American football” is USAian.

    Well, since you can’t throw a spherical object in a way that would qualify as a “spiral”…

    (And properly the word should be “helical”, not “spiral” … but that’s a battle long since lost.)
