On a dare a kid in high school did a belly flop off the high dive. At contact his body seemed to stop. A wave ran in all directions towards the edge of the pool. He seemed to be frozen on a pillar of water in the middle of the dive pool for an instant. Then he slowly sank below the surface of the water.

One of the most terrifying moments of my childhood was the first (and all subsequent) jumps off a diving board. I don’t do that anymore.

I belly-flopped from the high dive once, but not on purpose.
Surface tension is a b-tch.
