Why does this remind me of the “Four Yorkshiremen” Monty Python sketch?

Back in my day, my father would sometimes take us to basketball games. I never really paid attention to the game, I just was in it for the snacks and the halftime show.

This should be adapted into an episode.

Early 1970s – Neighbor and I would play board games under a tree in the afternoon, a combination of stickball and improv (lotta cartoon characters as players; somehow the Roadrunner was invariably walked) in the evening (Mom commented about that being smart). With just two of us, large sidewalk blocks served as both bases and basemen, a bush as the catcher. Anything across the street was a home run, short of that meant some running by the pitcher.

How old are these guys supposed to be? I played street football in the late 50s but wouldn’t think of a pickup game at my age. Somewhere along the way to the present, I also played WoW until 3am ;)

we used to play pickup games in the early 60’s – football, basketball and baseball. i never played soccer, but enjoy watching the rest of the world and MSL play more than football. football is too much of a collision sport for young kids to play. two of my son’s best friends had knees operations before they started college due to the damage done when they were younger. basketball and soccer are contact sports, but as I said before football is a collision sport.

Sports aren’t the same anymore. Players imported from all over — the globe, not just the country — big money everywhere, stadiums named after corporate sponsors. A long time ago I lost interest — why should I care about a silly game played by a bunch of rich guys I don’t know, with no connection to me or my state except they’re getting paid to play their “home” games here?
