I wish I remembered the details of a news item I read many years ago about someone who hit a golf ball on a frozen lake with a stiff wind at his back. The ball traveled for several hours and covered many, many miles. Someone’s 15 minutes of fame.

Have you not heard of the Ice golf championships? There are actually folks -sincere golf devotees they- who ice golf every winter.
Unfortunately, due to my delicate condition, I am not fond of slippery surfaces however.
Back in IL, our town had the Chili Open every winter. When the ice on the lake was thick enough, generally in January, the open was held. Astroturf was used for the greens and holes were drilled into the ice just deep enough to hold the balls, which were orange. Chili was served afterwards.

That sounds like a great time Marg, we used to have a football game on the lake in in an open field on New Year’s Day, but afterwards everyone was to beat up to do anything but drag themselves to tehir cars and go home.

I hope they used colored golf balls so they can find them in the ice.
