Parents should be giving their children a healthy fear of breaking a bone when their adult aged children get thrown out onto the street.

Best thing a parent can do is to kick their child out as soon as education is completed or they choose to not go to college.
It builds character and maturity. Never mind that it is the proper thing to do as you progress through life.
