Brutus: Hello? Yes, I am a registered voter.
Brutus: Thanks for the reminder to vote, but I already voted this morning on the way to work.
Brutus: Psst - if you can get me out of work, I'll vote again.
On the day of a federal election in Canada, an employee must be granted at least 4 consecutive hours off work with pay while the polls are open. Since the polls close at 20:00, that means being let off work at 16:00 for most day workers.
In my state if you don’t have 3 consecutive hours outside of your work shift, your employer is required to pay you upto 2 hours and let you go vote. You can request beginning or end, otherwise the employer gets to decide when you go. You must request it a minium of three days in advance, you cannot ask for it the day of. I do not qualify since I am off at 4pm and polls close at 8pm thus I have 4 hours, but people who work later than me, could but most people aren’t too educated on their own laws. Each state is a little bit different.

Just remember folks! After the election if you don’t like the winners and you didn’t vote against them then you effectively voted for them.
