Cathy: All these hotels welcome dogs on vacation, Electra, as long as you use basic etiquette. No leaping on the bed with muddy feet. No slobbering water all over the floor. No playing tuggy with the nice towels. No eating the in-room brochures. No leaving slimy rawhides on the furniture. No nose prints on the windows. No howling each time there's an animal on TV. Electra: You call that a "vacation"?!

Hmmmmm . . . no water on the floor or nose prints on the window glass? I don’t think we’d be able to stay at that particular hotel with our dog if the rules are that strict! She’s pretty dainty — a real “girlie girl” really — but she still slobbers just a little bit when she drinks out of her water dish [although certainly nothing that can’t be wiped up in about 2 seconds]. And nose prints on the glass? What dog doesn’t do that when there’s so much to look at on the other side of where they are right now and they can’t experience what’s going on for themselves?!? As far as everything else goes? Not a problem because she doesn’t do any of those other things anyhow but still…. Meanwhile, where’s the rule that dogs also can’t pee or poop on the floor either? That should definitely be listed on the hotel’s “no-no” etiquette list!!!!!

The most upmarket hotel I’ve ever stayed in welcomed small dogs – the leaflet I read said they’d never had a dog trash a room …whereas I suspect that they’d had serious damage from some humans. Which would you prefer to accommodate, a dog or a rock star?
