MIL’s have a bad rep for a reason, you know. Here’s one.

To keep peace in the family, the mother-in-law unit should be the nearest motel.

My kids are still fairly young, but I have absolutely nooooo intention of being “that” MIL. And I definitely won’t stay with my kids when I visit them – I like my privacy!

Ugh, Cathy’s MIL is the worst! I don’t think my MIL is the worst, but sometimes she does say/do some pretty rude things (mostly to me). When my husband and I were looking for our first house together, my MIL happened to be in town so she went to look at houses also. Every single house that we went into, she would find an extra bedroom and say something like Cathy’s MIL… “This one is for the grandmother!” and laugh like she was hysterical. Meanwhile, at the time we had no children and she had no grandchildren at all. She was just making it clear that she wanted us to have kids and she was going to stay with us for a while when we did have them. Thank God for the Atlantic Ocean that separates us!!She is so bizarre..Hello Cathy clan! I hope you all are having a good day! It’s almost Friday! Thankfully, we have gas in the gas stations and they should be resolving the pipeline issue soon. What a pain.QuietStorm, I hope you’re ok, sweet lady! With school and your mom, you’re going through a lot! Hugs!!

Yep. Only the Mother-In-Law From HELL would enter her son and daughter-in-law’s new house and automatically expect toget the master bedroom suite anytime she feels like coming forone of her horrendous, ungodly-too-long visits! Cathy’s mother may be annoying due to the apron strings that are wrapped justa little too tightly around her daughter’s neck but at least she means well. Irving’s mother, on the other hand? Well, that woman’s behavior is just downright rude and obnoxious! :-P

Looks like Cathy was the one who should have run for her lifein the opposite direction when Irving proposed but I guess a mother like his is the risk you run when you’re so desperate toget married that just about anyone will do! ;-)

    Hi, rgcviper! :-)

lightenup: So, did your M-I-L come and stay with you for long periods of time after your girls were born, just like she said (inso many words) she was going to do? Your last line about her, “She is so bizarre.” really made me smile. The last two yearsyou spent in Spain must have been very difficult ones. Kudos, Sis, for somehow managing to make it back home again with your sanity still in tact. (((Hugs, Girlfriend!!!)))

Hello and Happy Thursday, fellow Cathy fans. Hope everyone had a really nice day today! :-)

Oh, my. There were these Air Force roommates who found themselves adopted when the parents of the first sister brought them home. Their future MIL and FIL and the great-aunt and -uncle around the block. Dad was comfortable living another block away and popping in either house with me (not always with Mom) when I was a baby. My disabled grandpa needed help, table leaves put in, niece, nephew, or removed cousin (grands of the great-aunt) needed something? They did it. Paul’s with Grandma as much as his wife is now.

When we visited either Dad’s mom or his dad and his wife, both women treated us like ours. Everyone was all Southern hospitality combined with Southern “don’t go to trouble on our account.” And Mom’s family had lived near Dad enough to be able to navigate the “when I’m a good host I take care of the guests and when I’m the guest I don’t let them spend on our account” paradox. We once emptied a room for Dad’s sister on 3 weeks notice and 4 adults managed without a kitchenette for almost 2 years!

Yeah … might want to look into a separate living arrangement, Cathy & Irving.

    HI, MOM. Greetings, Clan.
