I run in to that problem at the end of a business trip and dont have any bills to give the parking shuttle driver. Makes me feel like a total bum.

Jay – Try taking a five or a ten (or whatever you plan on tipping), folding it up and stashing it in your wallet. I can usually find space behind a credit card.

I have to agree with Reine on this one.

My pet peeve, and I’ve never worked in any kind of tip-paid job. If you stiff the server, you stiff him or her in a major way! The government doesn’t trust people to report their tip income. So they take the intake of the restaurant and assess taxes based in that. So if you stiff the server, he or she is still going to have to pay income tax on what you didn’t leave! How is that even remotely fair? Some places collect all the tips and share them out to other staff. Some even take a cut, which I understand is illegal for management to do, but who knows?

If you can’t afford to tip appropriately, go someplace cheaper and tip appropriately there! I HATE that people are dependant on tips, it’s a stupid system. But if we are going to do it, do it right!

    ahem. Steps daintily off soapbox.

Forgot to mention that service is excellent even without the thought of tips.
