A woman always FEELS better when she has taken the time to relax and be pampered, even tho’ there is no physical change. Im just glad that my man and I see each other though the eyes of love, and he looks every bit the same to me as 30+ years ago (when we first met). And from conversations with him, it seems that he sees me in that light as well. I think that if I am all he needs to feel . . . then – so much the better! ;-D
I always hated these situations. I always felt that true beauty lies within and radiates from the heart and soul. When my woman would ever get that shallow and insecure, I would do my best to build them up. But the truth is, sometimes the jeans do make their fannies look fat and so do genes. And some makeovers are done by lousy make-up artists and hide the true beauty that is already there under an obvious lie.
Having said all that, I had a misadventure with my wife’s hair some years back. She has very fine and straight hair. It doesn’t take well to perms and neither do they enhance her face. I love the way my wife looks, even now after many, many years. Not long after we were married, she came home with a tightly curled perm. Her hair had been cut short in the process and it looked like a poodle’s pompadour. I made the mistake of saying so. It cost me, I’ll tell you that.
The only problem is now that she thinks it works, she’ll spend a fortune on he high priced , non-working cosmetics the sell. Free makeover my patootie. The last free makeover my other half had has cost over $300 so far.
I really don’t see the harm in John boosting Elly’s self-esteem by telling her how great she looks right now. If he truly loved her, wouldn’t he think she looked beautiful anyhow? Besides, she’s normally all down in the dumps about her looks anyhow so why not agree with her and make a fuss about how wonderful she looks when, at this very moment, she’s feeling so good about herself for a change?!?
No. A wife (any woman) would have caught the “What a difference,” and asked him just what he meant by that! "What a difference implies she wasn’t beautiful before!(I’m a woman, I know how we think!) He should have said she looked nice, but then again, she always looks nice! That she doesn’t need any of that “stuff.”

I don’t see a difference either — except she has a smile on her face that would quickly fade if he said he didn’t see a difference.

Phyllis Diller used to say that if she died, her husband wouldn’t be able to identify the body. Many a wife could relate to that…
