Cool, graduation day is the best. And, she is sporting quite the baby bump. What drama awaits? Will she go into labor when she is “hooded”? I can hardly wait for this week to progress.

Respect for PhDs has dwindled in academia and society. At Cornell, hardly any profs are called “Dr” and most by their first names -by undergrads! Sure has changed from my time. Gown is wrongly stiped here.

EarlP — the gown matches the institution (MIT), the hood colors match the field of study.

Academic titles do not include “doctor” – although many PhDs expect to be addressed as such. Academics are “professors” and “deans”. Physicians are “doctors.”

Check the headlines, Susan Rice has received her payoff forrepresenting the Benghazi cover up with an appointment as National Security Advisor located in the west wing of the White House. How convenient does it get.

Perhaps it would be better to ignore the trolls. If you flag for ‘people who disagree with me,’ GoComics will stop paying attention to flagging. I use it only for foul language and ad hom type insults.

Yeah, I know. Look at me, I’m perfect. Sorry. I’ll go mumble over here a while.

Dear political polemicists: Thanks for giving us a little break there, for a few comments. Today’s strip had nothing to do with politics, that I could see. It was a relief not to see sniping and spitfiring there for a bit.

Intercollegiate Code of 1895: Gowns are black, velvet facing and bars may be black or they may match the field of study — like the border on the hood. Not sure if MIT follows that.

The title Doctor is an honorific earned by the PhD. As such it is appropriate when formally addressing them to use Doctor in place of Mister or Missus or Miss. Just like a Judge, General, President, Major or Governor should be address with their honorific.

Alex,A little parenting advice. You will have relatives and acquaintances that will behave in the following way:It could be a graduation, a wedding reception, a five-year old’s birthday or a grandparent’s funeral and these relatives or acquaintences will say, “did you see what YOUR president did now?!”It doesn’t have to be a president. It could be “your governor” or “your senator.”Other times they will be bring joy to these gatherings by saying “those (fill in the blank) people are destroying the country.” Do your twins a favor, keep them away from these relatives and acquaintences..Sincerely,NH41

“Next question: Why did Barack Obama mislead the investigation of the Benghazi Murders?”-Because he didn’t want to badmouth the Secretary of State. She had done a very good job other than that.-Besides, once you’ve stated your position, it is embarassing to admit how wrong it was. Look at the moderator who claimed President Obama had acknowledged the attack was a terrorist attack. He hadn’t and she was wrong but she doesn’t like to talk about it either.Next question?

Folks have asked for facts on the Benghazi fiasco. Smoking gun facts are difficult to document and practically impossible so in Washington D.C. In D.C. everything is shaped and spun to maximize a favorable presentation and minimize the damage. Events in D.C. are not by happenstance or coincidence. Everything is orchestrated. Lie cheat and steal is the Washington culture and screw all that stuff about honesty, character, principals and integrity. So I offer this as the closest to fact that I can indentify. So you are welcomed to your opinion but if you have some facts please throw them out there. 1. CIA intelligence knew in the first few hours Benghazi was not a stupid movie demonstration but a well planned 911 celebration to remind us the terrorist are still potent. This was documented in hearings with then CIA Director Petraeus.2. Conveniently Hill came down with a case of the diplomatic flu so she could not answer questions from the public or in senate hearings. The flu was not so bad as to require a hospital visit that would include pesky documentation of her condition. The major league cluster foul up and cover up would look bad during a presidential run in 2016. 3. Susan Rice was chosen by the Obama administration to answer the troublesome questions about Benghazi. In Obama’s own words he said Rice was the “least connected person” to the Benghazi fiasco. So that makes sense to send in the least qualified or knowledgeable person to defend the Benghazi fiasco. Right! After the session with McCain and Lindsey they were more convinced than ever there was a cover up being fed to the public. 4. Rice had four or five days to gather information and get the story right. But, behold she and the White House presented a completely different story to the Sunday talk shows than the CIA knew to be fact. And that’s a Christian way to say it. 5. In the middle of the whole deal Rice was nominated as a replacement for Hill. In my opinion that was the same as staking out a pure little female lamb in lion country for the lions to ravage. The lion image being mean old white male republicans. In the end Rice and the White House didn’t want to have her vetted in a public forum for Secretary and she bailed out. More of the administrations skullduggery to divide and create conflict in the country between black, white, male, female, old, young, democrats, republicans, rich and poor. And I have to give Obama credit he has done this with mastery. Divide and conquer has worked for 4000 years.

I taught at the university until just a few years ago and my students called me Dr. I don’t think it hurts to have a little respect in the classroom (and it wouldn’t hurt to have a little in these comments boards, but I don’t expect that any time soon). Outside academia I don’t ever introduce myself as Dr., although at the psych clinic where I work, my boss does introduce me that way. Congrats to Dr. Alex!!!!!
