In a rush this morning, and will not be around during a good part of the day. My 99 year old aunt/godmother passed away 2 wks. ago, and the funeral is today. Out of 18 aunts and uncles on both sides of the family plus, of course, my mom and dad, which makes 20 people of that generation, she was the last one. So, now, my sister, my cousins, and I are all the “older generation” or the “wise elders” (lol) . Yikes! I’m not ready for that! I’m too young!! (Well, out of 25 of us cousins, I am the youngest!!)
Anyway, it’s the passing of the torch to our generation. It’s sad to lose someone you’ve known forever. But…… good for her that she reached age 99 and led a good life!!
(This was not meant to put a damper on a funny Friday toon, but just a comment about life and family status changes and…also, just that I’ll be scarce during the day. In case anyone might wonder where I was. )
Happy Friday to those still at the Tiki …..and Fred’s Place!
“Short people got no reason……….”You may remember the song by Randy Newman 1977 Little Criminals album.1. Actually in real life, Tiny is very big.2. The dang bar stool broke.3. No place to stand so I will just sit here.4. About that hole in the floor?5. The say all this hard drinking will lead me to hell so I started digging.6. Where are da wemem?7. I don’t often drink beer but when I do……I prefer a pony bottle.
Poor Tiny, he’s sort of become a permanent fixture down at Fred’s Place after NASA closed down the Mini- Space Capsule testing labs. Tiny was a pioneer in the early days of space flight. HAPPY FRIED DAY BALLADEERS !The Tiki is having a Fish Fry Dinner tonight. Come one, come all. Bring your appetite and your wallets.
Back in the late sixths, early seventies, in Fairfield California, there was a hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant called The Hut. It was a small place with a small, small kitchen. The proprietor/cook was a man nicknamed “Tiny”. He was anything but tiny. As a child I was amazed by this big, big man in the tiny kitchen cooking. He never needed to walk to get from one part of the kitchen to another. All he had to do was turn around.
Stel, Sorry to hear! I know how it feels to be an elder of the family. I am the eldest of my parent’s branch (my only sibling having gone at a younger age) and of all the family, only one cousin is older (by 3 years) but there are a few only months younger than I.
It IS a challenge, but I hope to have another 20-25 if I can enjoy good health and the pleasures that matter .
My condolences, Stel… hope all the family stuff goes smoothly.
I’m on my way out of town too ….I may or may not be a bit scarce for a few days… It partly depends on how many times Elvis can make the journey, and how bad the roads are in between.
I(cky)Mudd… I have many toon friends as well… It’s nice that they don’t need sleep and will hang out when a lot of humans are asleep.
And I meant to say last night that I also have known two "Tiny"’s … both huge.
One was a cab driver… Very nice… took me to therapy once a week for a while after knee surgery.
I was amazed, about halfway through that time, when I finally saw Tiny get out of the cab…and I realised how much bulk was actually packed in behind the wheel of a small cab… and that she was a woman.
The man was a shift manager at a grocery store…. perhaps 7 feet tall and …hard to guess at that height…but I’ll go with 325 pounds.
So I figure Tiny, above, just might be riding the floorboards.

That’s Fred’s Place, up the road…
Nice enough… but no Tiki, if you know what I mean.
Mostly Toon clientele…. some come down here when Fred’s closes at 2am….
Little monkeys…a scotch for me, please….I’ll let the Fireman get Bev’s drink …if she hasn’t left yet.

Tiny, who is subject to bouts of wishful thinking, can’t make up his mind whether he wants a Highball or a Mr. Big.

Well it’s time for me to head to bed. I’ll probably wake up moments after the last one standing (Susan) has joined everyone else under the table.
