Sigh, were did he go? I really miss the old boy. Remember when it was just the Testament and not the old Testament. Nothing was ambiguous back then. Didn’t need middlemen to twist and beneficially interpret God’s will for you. Boy oh boy, talk about in your face and keeping it real. One world and one God and one set of rules for everyone. Looking at the sorry state this world is in now, makes you start to think that maybe those really were the best of times.
Well, I’m a Christian, and I’m disgusted. Treason, jingoism, and spiritual pride all in one convenient package.
The Pledge of Allegiance was created as a publicity stunt for a long-discontinued magazine (“Youth’s Companion”). It was written by a socialist who wanted to include the words “equality” and “fraternity”, but felt he had to leave them out because they wouldn’t be accepted in America. The words “under God” were inserted sixty years later, and were justified at the time on the basis of the obscene lie that America is the only nation that believes in God. They were also intruded in such a way as to disfigure and largely vitiate the original phrase “one nation indivisible”, which I’m sure greatly pleased the Sons of the Confederacy in those days of Brown v. Board of Education.
I suppose I should at least be happy that the Pledge crushed the blasphemous “American’s Creed”, in public, anyway.

If only I didn’t recall when “under God” wasn’t in the pledge…as in before 1955. Oh well. Fanatics gotta have their way, i guess.
