I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United... Wait.. Wait.. Sorry I cannot participate! I do not wish to offend, but there is a certain three letter word in this pledge that my family and I find objectionable. My fathers issued me a slip granting me permission to alter the oath to comply with my families belief system... One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for native born, well bred property owners.

Because, you know, life is so unfair to them that they need special helpings of liberty and justice.

For those who never saw a desk like his before, the hole is to hold a glass container of ink (a dark liquid that you dipped a pen into). It brings back memories to me of the teacher coming around with a large bottle of ink, filling our inkwells.

Is that a pool cue in the teachers hand?

I thought Sedgie was going to switch out “United States” with “Britannica.”

I thought he would have changed ‘God’ since he said it was a three letter word, but it was ‘all’. It’s the smallest words that have the largest impact.

Ah yes, fascist loyalty oaths for children. Surely the hallmark of a free society.

“Sounds like the dead USSR and long dead Nazi Germany also had such pledges.”I don’t think schools punish kids for refusing to say the pledge anymore. Only morons & fascists think forcing children to take a loyalty oath makes them better citizens. The lawsuit overturning the forced pledge were brought by Jehovah’s Witnesses in the 1940’s. From the Supreme Court’s ruling:“Schools… are not to strangle the free mind at its source and teach youth to discount important principles of our government as mere platitudes.”

The Pledge of Allegiance was written in August 1892 by the socialist minister Francis Bellamy (1855-1931). It was originally published in The Youth’s Companion on September 8, 1892. Bellamy had hoped that the pledge would be used by citizens in any country.
In its original form it read:
“I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”In 1923, the words, “the Flag of the United States of America” were added. At this time it read:
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words “under God,” creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Bellamy’s daughter objected to this alteration. Today it reads:
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

I am surprised to see an East Coast Elite School like Windsor Hall using the Pledge of Allegiance at all, but not surprised to see it allowing for conscientious dissent. What I am increasingly disliking is the unseen senior Mr. Nuttingham.

@DAZZ – very cool. Though Atenveldt is one kingdom I am not really familiar with. Living in Atlantia but not been active for quite a few years, we don’t run into too many westerners except at Pennsic…
