I’m back Ballardeers. Bev. I saw the tape of your party. Wow ! That’s all I can say. You are the talk of the town. I wished I could have been there in person but you know how is …. booty calls…er… make that duty calls.Other than suffering a broken toe, whilst fording a river ( O.K. I’d call it a creek, they call it a river ), had a fantastic weekend. The toe thing is true. It wasn’t my big toe but one of the smaller, insignificant members. The old Capt. ain’t as agile in a rocky riverbed as he used to be. Flowerbeds and Feather beds we won’t discuss.Judging from my bar tab, I guess y’all had a very good weekend as well.
An old lady once told me, “If you can’t remember what you were going to say, it must have bin a lie.”.I’ve yet to figure out how that relates to when “Ican’t remember what I was doing”.
We refer to the late 60s and 70s as our “What were we thinking!” years. Like skinny dpping at Mammoth Hot Springs with about 200 other people. The night sky was wonderous tho.
I remember lots and lots of things from very early childhood forward. The sixties – particularly the latter – and early seventies have memories that are screened though a smokey haze of recollection. To paraphrase Dickens, regarding the "60’s, It was the worst of times and the best of times….
Got a couple of bags packed for the cruise…one for clothes, one for meds…do we have to go through customs? I need to know before I zip the meds bag…lol…
Shika What are you complaining about? I woke up in the middle of nowhere on some island in Ecuador with no one around! I think with all the luggage brought on board they thought I was excess baggage and threw me OVERBOARD!
I know everyone will show up soon, but I have to get to bed. Still recovering from whatever happened over the weekend. Food galore, drinks, chocolate, champagne, cocktails, lots of colorful people running around….I’m bushed!GOOD NIGHT BALLARDEERS !
With or without polka dots, Shirley has recovered the essence of Ballard Street. Once again through the small pane, a crack in the armor just large enough to let the light in, the truth is revealed. Shirley is emphatic and Marge is confused. Marge has never considered forgotten memories; those blank spots are just the pauses between breaths. Everyone has them. It’s sorta comforting for her to look back with out the burdens of slugging through the countless rounds. The high points are just fine. For her it’s more one memory replaces another, sorta a better version. Not so for Shirley. No blank spots here. Her story starts out, I did that one time; and its space, race, get it and go. Why there’s the run on story about the days with the CIA and witness protection program, the shooting in Queens and the high speed chase across the bridge into the New Jersey night. The sprained ankle, the one eye donkey and the four days to get off the mountain. The ketch on the reef, the swim to shore, what eat the cat in the night and a long wait for rescue. Bear traps, broken arrows, tornado sirens, wide open plains and wet weather creeks. She’s a cook off champion, stock broker, milk maiden and pool hustler. Got lost in the rain forest, taught English to the Spanish and imported cilantro on the side. For Shirley nothing smells so good as a ripe story. Marge must be smelling something else. Could it be bull droppings on a hot afternoon?

I, too have memories from before I turned 1. My family didn’t believe it until I would say what happened from an adult’s knee level. It is possible
