Actually, I too, had the experiences you relate about your son…. it only took one scratch from my pet cat to find out that it was going to hurt me , worse than it hurt him if I tugged on his tail…. I also learned a painful lesson, to never walk in front of someone on the swings… and with the momentum that it brings, that people (and shoes) are not made of feathery, cushiony material…- I’ve since learned the value of worded warnings, myself… it sure beats having unpleasant experiences happening all of the time for one to get the point….

" Let us see if this is the arc that makes me say I was wrong about the two of them."I predict tomorrow something mildly suggestive, but not remotely definitive will happen, and we will spend from now until the wedding arguing about whether it means anything.

Yeah, it should be more common than Jones, Smith, or Doe…

When we were kids my parents pretty much let my sister and me do our own thing with our candy. They figured the quicker we ate it up, the quicker we would quit fighting over it. Neither of my kids that’s old enough for trick or treating has ever tried to eat any of it without permission. We generally end up throwing some away because it spoils.

Shannon’s face in the 2nd panel is so cute and expressive, you can just SEE that she’s thinking “You’re trying to BS me, Brad!”

My son was the same. He was three years old when I pointed to the tip of the hot glue gun (while it was hot) and said, “Don’t ever touch this, it’s very, very hot.” Well, he immediately reached out and touched it!! I couldn’t believe it. Now my daughter on the other hand seemed to grasp the significance of the danger when she was just a few months old. I would tell her something was hot and not to touch it, and she never did. Hmmm, I wonder if it could be hormones? Just a thought.

Left over from yesterday: My take on the Shannon bites Ann controversy=
While I agree with Seismic that Toni should have had a talk with Shannon later, I think Shannon was well justified in biting her, to protect her property and herself! Think like a 6 yr old, you have a new hat, and some strange lady grabs it and tries to take it from you, what would be your options to defend yourself? (Btw, I agree with those who called it an assault on Shannon… by definition, if you put your hands on someone without permission, that IS assault!)

That reminds me of my ‘mother’. Everytime I got money from relatives for either Christmas or my birthday, she took It away for ‘safe keeping’. After I’d left home at 21 she finally admired she’s spent it all.

The FIRST Thing YOU Gotta to DO, once the Ink has DRIED on the Adoption Papers, Is to TEACH the Little MONS…, er “Cherub” is that there’s 6 Billion OTHER Folks on the Planet. And that While She’s Important She AIN’T Exactly the Center of the Universe.

You know that picture floating around the web of a boy sticking a knife/fork into a wall socket? That was me.Knocked over a goldfish bowl, which caused the cats great excitement, but even more when Ma whaled on me. We ALL learned something that day !

Candy holidays…Halloween, Christmas, Valentines, Easter, then long dry spell.

Nice try, Brad. In fact, the whole interplay between Brad and Shannon is fascinating, as Toni herself appears to realize (panel 1). It has already become very nearly a father-daughter relationship….

Y’Know what? It also Brings to mind “Willie Wonka”/“Charlie And The Chocolate Factory”, in particular: “the Candy Man” As sung by Aubrey Woods in the Willie Wonka version, along with good ol’ Sammy….Davis, of course… (“…the Candy Man can!. ’Cos he mixes it with looove and makes the world taaaaste good!”…)

Toni has her arms crossed a lot when she is around Shannon. I don’t think Toni likes her niece much. I think Brad and Luann should adopt Shannon, they both really like her and are great with her.

I’ve never been one to want to read holiday comics long after the holiday is over. Evans needs to move this storyline along. Who’s spending Thanksgiving where, Evans??
JanLC about 11 years ago
Is the child in charge? Why are Brad & Toni giving her a choice? The candy gets put away and doled out a little at a time. Period.

The only thing my dad asks for when it comes to the Halloween candy brought home on Halloween night is if there’s any dark chocolate, and, sadly, there never is; but if there is peanut M&Ms, then he has free dibs.
‘Course, I don’t know where my sister has hidden her Halloween candy…however I do intend to look for it when she isn’t in her bedroom.

“Greed is good!” is kind of cute when said by a 6-year-old. It’s neither cute nor good when said by a Wall Street banker or anyone else over age 16.

There is a checking account attached, but he has to move money from the savings account into it, which he rarely does. You have to understand that this is a kid who, when I offered him a new TV for his birthday, said he would rather stick with the 13incher I got when I was a teenager. He is just not a spendy person.

The facebook page’s caption to this. “Brad needs to get WAY smarter if he ever expects to be a dad to a 6 year old.” Sounds like they’re telling us they will start out as a family of three.

Well, yeah … but we learn pretty much everything we know about parenting before we are seven.
Maybe we should say ‘Way to go, Frank!’, eh?

I can never figure out this obsession with the sex lives of other people, which seems like true lunacy when extended to the sex lives of comic characters.
It always seems sleazy to me, to focus on the sex lives of others to the extent that we see today. What drives this prurient obsession? Whose business is it but theirs if Toni and Brad test the waters before they marry or not?
It always makes me a little nauseous, this focus on people’s sexuality. Maybe I need more meds.

Does anyone have songs to add? ^UncaJim added “Candy” by Dinah Shore/Johnny Mercer/Jo Stafford/Big Mabelle/Manhattan Transfer, etc. and I added “the Candyman” by Aubrey Woods/Sammy Davis, Jr.,etc…… for another “twist”, I’ll add “Everything I Have Is Yours” by Billy Eckstine/Brook Benton, etc……
JayBluE about 11 years ago
I would have put Barnes and Barnes there, but I felt the company that makes “W&W” candies would feel slighted and inferior, being the only one without their parent company named.. they don’t want people to find out that their candy was created by accident… it got loaded into the packaging machine wrong…
JayBluE about 11 years ago
The only thing about image sharing, though, is the “use of bandwidth issues”, and the fact that the size of the pictures have to be “fooled with a lot”, in order to make them able to fit on this website, and not slow down people’s screens on GoComics… not to mention any screen loading/graphic issues (HTML, Java, Oracle, Flash, etc.), and the hyperlink issues… some browsers just won’t, and some have issues between Chrome, Firefox, Explorer, or something else… and GoComics allows some URL stuff and hyperlinks, but has restrictions/limitations in place, sometimes…..

I’d rxpect it would more likely be the other wayabout, if anything. However, because of the frequent showers (which I doubt are cold ones!), I doubt that either is the case.

Besides “Lost In Space” and other SciFi/fantasy/adventure/drama appearances , he also did music for himself, but was also one of the Barnes “brothers” (“Art Barnes”, along with “Artie Barnes”, his “twin brother”)….
